Does the Q50 have a performance variant?

The RC F is a coupe; two doors and insurance rear seats.
The GS F is the sedan. And also the much better of the two.

Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400. Not sure if the RS4 is still in production or if it’s on hiatus.

The Red 400 I think is what it’s called.

GS-F is 550i M-Sport rival, Jcarr is talking about cars at the M3 level.

Q50S, with a 400 hp Turbo V6. More like a 340i than a M3 tho.

But they specifically listed sedans , which the RC is not.
I suggested the GS F because it IS a sedan.

Maserati Ghibli S Q4 is the performance variant. The base model Ghibli is like a 340i, as opposed to an M3.

Not is production anymore since the new A4 launched. They are already developing the new one, but in wagon only like the last gen.

The Infiniti has 80hp over the 340i. I would call it Infiniti’s M3 competitor. Not a good one, but definitely not a 340i competitor.

Car and Driver puts the Ghibli in the 5-series category. Not sure what to do with that one.

Wondering if it would still count then since they made them last year and I’m guessing plan to keep making them.

I agree with you, I’m well aware with the fact that the RC is a coupe. They also specifically listed sedans at M3 level, which the GS F is not. The old IS F was, but they don’t build it anymore

Yeah, this is what’s so daunting about this series. Vehicles don’t always fit neatly into predetermined categories.

RC-F is a coupe. You have “M3 & M4" on your list so IS-F & RC-F would be more accurate.
The question marks are:
S4 - more like a 340i M Sport competitor
Infiniti Q50 & Q60 Red Sport 400 - they have the 400 hp motor but are also set up more like the regular Q50S than a bunch of extra fancy chassis stuff
Noah - Now with more boost.

I’m going to blur things a little and not worry about 2 versus 4 doors. If it’s close in size to an M3, then it’s in. If it’s closer in size to an M5, it’s out.

S4 most certainly NOT M3 class. It’s not even 335is class. The direct competitor would be RS4 which sadly isn’t sold in North America.

I think I’ll still include it since it’s the closest thing Audi offers. Tough to make everything fit neatly into one category.

So why make a point to point it out?
I am well aware the GS F is not necessarily an M3 competitor. I suggested it because it is the only performance
sedan
offering from Lexus.

Ok, well if you have M3 & M4 you should have both IS-F and RC-F.

But the IS-F isn’t current though, it’s an older model that hasn’t been replaced yet. There’s the GS-F, but that’s a whole size larger than the 3-series.
All Lexus has in that category is the RC-F at the moment. I wouldn’t really count the F-Sport IS.

What qualifies a car as a “sports sedan?” What qualifies a car as a sedan for that matter?

If it’s fairly close to an M3, I’m going to consider it. It can’t be perfectly defined, especially when I’m doing these with my free time.

How about a Chevy SS? Not only does it have 400+hp, but you can get it with a freaking manual transmission!!!

Closer in size to an M5 so I’m not going to include it here.

If you have the S4 in there you should have the IS350 F-Sport. It might have about 20 less hp but it weighs at least 300-400 lbs less than an S4.

Well I know a friend who was looking at an M3, looked at the S4 and immediately dismissed it.
He ended up getting neither and bought out his ML 63 lease instead. I wish him best of luck with that thing...
And if only Audi brought over the A/S/RS5 Sportback... I might look over its FWD chassis.

You have to define the categories better. Are you talking about COMPACT sports cars, because that’s what the M3, ATS V, C63 Etc are. The Ghibli falls into the midsize category as would the M5 etc.
